Athlone 1-11 Caulry 2-8

Athlone and Caulry played out a a thrilling draw in Pairc Chiaran in the first round of the Westmeath Minor League

Despite going 3 points down early in proceedings, Athlone got into gear with an excellent point by Warren Conroy after 10 minutes of play, followed by 3 well taken frees from Ray Connellan. Continuing pressure from the Athlone side yielded points from Jordan Marshment, Seamie and Aidy Byrne leaving Athlone 3 points to the good at half-time.

Caulry took the initiative immediately after half-time with two well taken goals. Athlone responded immediately with points from Connellan and Conroy and an excellently taken goal from Roy King. Athlone followed on with good points from Paddy Sheriff and Roy King but were still a point down well into injury time when 2nd half substitute Richie Green coolly stepped up and slotted the equalising point with the game.

At the end of the contest a draw was a fair result for both sides.
