U14 Girls Championship
Athlone v Rochfortbridge
Our U14 girls completed their final group game of the championship against Rochfordbridge on Friday evening last. Putting on a wonderful display of football they outclassed their opponents and had a very comfortable victory. However the early stages of the game were dominated by 'the Bridge' but they could not find a way through our defence. Then from our first attack Karla McManus scored a point to settle us down. Straight from the kick out we broke through and Karla added a goal. Then we took over and following some excellent passing movements Brionna Geoghegan, Karla and Grace Halligan(2) all added goals. Rochfordbridge replied with a point and then a goal of their own to reduce the deficit but further scores from Karla (1-1) and a goal from Lauryn Mitchell left us ahead at the break by 7-2 to 1-1.

The second half continued as the first had ended and we had further scores for Karla(1-2), Brionna(1-1), Grace(0-2) and the scoring was completed with a point from Kelly Brill. Rochfordbridge managed four points in the second half and at the final whistle the score was 9-8 to 1-5. We have now won all of our games and top the group and move straight into the semi final and we will have to wait until after the quarter final to know who we will face. The girls played well for the full 60 minutes and we dominated in all areas of the pitch. We are improving all the time and if the girls maintain their will to win and their current form it could be another great year for this talented group.
