U14 Girls League
Athlone v Rochfortbridge

The Athlone u14 girls completed their second league match on Tuesday when we travelled to take on Rochfordbridge. We had defeated Loughnavalley in the first game and were keen to build on that victory. We started very brightly and had early points from Grace Halligan (2), Kelly Brill and Brionna Geoghegan. When this was followed up with a great goal and a point from Grace and another point for Brionna we looked to be on the way to an easy victory with a lead of 1-6 to 0-0. However some missed opportunities from our forwards gave some hope to the home side and they scored two late points to leave it 1-6 to 0-2 at the break.

Amy Brill added a point early in the second half but then we seemed to lose concentration and Rochfordbridge took control for a period and scored five unanswered points to bring them to within one goal of us. However a super passing move down the field put Niamh McGann through on goal and she made no mistake and from then on we regained control. Four more points from Grace and one from Brionna followed before Niamh McGann finished the scoring with her second goal of the game. The final score was Athlone 3-12 Rochfordbridge 0-7. This was a wonderful team performance but a special mention must go to the complete backline who all had a tremendous game to keep the Rochfordbridge forwards very quiet. The next game for these girls is a championship match away to Mullingar Shamrocks.
