Athlone v St. Mary's Rochfortbridge

Athlone Minors got their first win of the Division 1 minor league against St. Marys Rochfortbridge on Sunday morning. The home side started the brightest and were 1-2 to a point up after 5 minutes. It could have been worse for the Blues only for a missed penalty from St. Marys. Athlone settled into the game then and were led by Daniel Reid in midfield and the hard working Eoin Fahy in defence. Sean Dowd pointed 4 frees and Benny Martin rifled home a goal on the stroke of half time to leave the teams level at 1-4 each at the break. Both sides went point for point at the second half with both teams displaying all the skills of the game.

Athlone took command in the last quarter and great work from Donagh Prendergast and Shane Allen set up many scores for Athlone. Sean Dowd top scored with 1-7 with the other goals coming from Brendan Martin and Mark Egan. Final score Athlone 3-12, St. Marys Rochfortbridge 1-12.
