Pairc Chiarain 20/08/2012

Athlone  3 – 12 Garrycastle 1 – 7

Athlone Minors had a most convincing win over their neighbours, Garrycastle, at Pairc Chiarain on Monday night in the second round of the Minor Club Championship.  Athlone were on top throughout the match and two early goals from Neil Scally and Aidan Byrne established an early significant lead for the town side.  A lack of concentration by the home side in the middle part of the first half let Garrycastle back into the match briefly but further scores from Aidan Byrne, Richie Greene, Seamus Byrne, Neil Scally and two excellent points from Ray Connellan, one from a 45 metre free, established a 2 – 7 to 1 – 4 advantage at half time.

Garrycastle raised their game in the early part of the second half.  However, excellent goal from Sam Omokoro and further points from Charlie McMickan but the game beyond Garrycastle’s reach mid way through the second half.  The final score line of 3 – 12 to 1 – 7 will give Athlone confidence going into the next round of the Championship against The Downs on Thursday night in Pairc Chiarain.
