Athlone        1-13

Rosemount  1-07

Athlone’s U-16 footballers booked their place in this year’s county decider thanks to a six point win over Rosemount in Tang last Saturday. Athlone, playing towards the dressing-room end in the opening half, enjoyed the lion’s share of possession but were struggling to put scores on the board. The town side entered the break with 0-7 to 1-1 lead.

John Keane’s Rosemount team began the second half brightly and had drawn level by the fortieth minute. The decisive score of the game came at the three-quarter mark when Peter Ryan found the net for the blues. Points from Charlie McMicken, Aidan Byrne and Richie Greene put the game beyond the reach of the Rosemount side who battled the final whistle.

Athlone now face Coralstown/Kinnegad in the county final. With the majority of the U-16’s involved with the club’s minor team which will contest the minor decider this coming Sunday it is a busy few weeks for all involved.
