U12 Girls Semi Final
Athlone 4-03 Goldsmith Girls 1-02
Last Tuesday evening our U12 girls secured their place in the final of the 2019 championship competition after a hard fought encounter with near neighbours, Goldsmith Girls. In difficult conditions, the Athlone outfit overcame a tenacious opposition and through a committed display where defences were to the fore throughout. The key difference between both sides was Athlone’s ability to capitalise on rare opportunities presented and a great shift put in by their defensive sextet. This was the third meeting this year between Goldsmith Girls and Athlone and with honours even from the two previous encounters there was an added impetus in establishing the local pecking order.
Final score line on the evening: Athlone 3-4; Goldsmith Girls 1-2. At time of writing we are awaiting confirmation of final opponents following the other semi-final between Loughnavalley and Coralstown/Kinnegad. The final is scheduled to take place on the weekend of the 21/22 September.

Athlone under 12 Girls followed up on their first round win over Caulry with a committed a skillful performance against Goldsmith Girls in Pairc Chiarán last week.
In what was a free-flowing and sporting encounter, the Athlone squad ultimately came out on top despite the committed efforts of Athlone's near neighbours.
Anchored by midfielders Gemma Mannion and Ceara Dwyer, Athlone weathered early pressure from the opposition and gradually played their way into a commanding position from which they didn't look back.
At the back, 'keeper' Ciara White snuffed out Goldsmith's forays forward, while the backs division of Sarah Costello, Sammy Okodugha, Sally-Ann Joyce and Emma Boyle ensured that the Goldsmith threat was contained expertly throughout.
As the game progressed, the expert support play of Áine Martin came more to the fore as the Athlone Girls continue to press their advantage.
Up front, Athlone's attack added to the team performance by capitalising on the platform provided by midfield. Emma Killian, Claire McNamara and Ruby O'Leary were committed and tenacious in exchanges with the opposition while Ellie Denby, Sadie Gaffey, Alisha and Ciara White all contributed significantly to what was an excellent overall team performance.
