Athlone U12 Boys
Athlone v Clann na nGael
Athlone Boys U12 boys played the third round in the Ballinasloe tournament when they made the short trip to Johnstown for two matches against Clann na nGael. Despite being down a number of regulars, we managed to field two eleven a side teams at the under 11 and under 12 grades. The lack of subs had a major impact on the under 12 game as some of the lads had played school games earlier in the day leaving them very tired for the final quarter. They had gone toe to toe with a very strong home side and had clawed back a six point half time deficit mid-way through the second period but with the hot sun sapping the energy out of the lads, the Clann players pulled away in the final stages and ran out easy winners. It was a very good performance by the lads and the score was a little misleading given the efforts they put in.

The U11 game saw the Athlone lads put in their best performance of the year and from first whistle to last, they were excellent. Their teamwork throughout was a joy to behold and while the score takers will always get the plaudits, it was the defensive display that most pleased the coaches as they conceded only four scores over the forty minutes against a very good Clann team. One win each left both camps happy and ready to go again. Many thanks to our hosts and we’ll no doubt see them later in the year.
The Athlone panel on the night was:  Conor Devins, Pierce Edmundson, Ryan Fallon, Jack Gavin, Cian Geary, Eoin Hardiman, Josh Kenny, Johnny Martin, Donagh McCormack, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Kian Mitchell, Luke O’Connell, Oisin O’Sullivan, Daniel Omukoro, Jason Rushe, Tom Sheridan, Alan Sweeney, Niall Tallon, Adam Temple, Justin Walsh and Luke Whelan.
