U16 League Division 1:
Athlone 0-14 The Downs 1-07

Athlone's U16 Boys team overcame The Downs in a high quality league encounter played in Páirc Chiaráin on Sunday evening.  This was an excellent all-round performance against a typically strong Downs outfit, with some great scores from the Athlone attack complemented by some superb disciplined defending by the their colleagues in the backline and also a couple of crucial saves from both goalkeepers who were used on the night.

Athlone:  John Duddy, Paddy Ryan, James Finlass, Joe Devins, Niall Doolan, Conor Rushe, Deba Okodugha, Shane Allen, Kevin Rowan, Anthony Johnson, Donagh Prendergast, Enda Daly, Mark Tallon, Josh Beaumount, Andy Beaumount.  Subs Used:  Killian O'Sullivan for Deba Okodugha, Kevin Cleary for Andy Beaumont, Rytis Liaukevicius for John Duddy

U12 Girls
Athlone took on Tubberclair in the last game of the local round of fixtures of the U12 league last Thursday. This was a fantastic game of football played by two very skilful teams. Again Athlone stayed with the policy of everyone gets a game and fielded 24 players on the night. At half time Athlone were down by a point on a score of 1-04 to 1-05. In the second half with a new full forward line it was the Blue and White that got their noses in front and were leading by a point with time nearly up. A close in free for the visitors gave them the chance to get level and that is the way it ended on a score of 2-08 each. On the night Lydia Mulvihill was outstanding in goal and a goal and a point at the other end  from Sarah McNamara were the stand out moments. We move on to the next round where even tougher games can be expected.
Panel: Aoife Hensey, Aoife McGivern, Orla Surlis, Rebecca Cleary, Abby Farrell, Eimear Galvin, Gillian Begley, Leah Nugent, Ava Martin, Kate Mannion, Sarah McNamara, Ellie-Mae Murphy, Amy Quinn, Keeva Reid, Abby Farrell, Aine DeTulio, Grace McGlynn, Sonia Cleary, Katie Dwyer, Aine McGlynn, Wassini Henry, Lucy Delaney, Molly Mulvhill-Wilkins.

U12 Boys
Athlone Boys U12 boys played the penultimate round in the Ballinasloe tournament on Thursday last when they made the short trip to Moate for two matches. Unfortunately, yet again, we were unable to field our full team and had to draft a couple of ten year olds to make up the starting 22. Again, the lack of subs meant that no players managed to get a rest which proved crucial against a well drilled Moate outfit.
The under 12 game was nip and tuck with the Athlone boys a score ahead at half time but as the second half wore on, the hosts improved and our boys did not have another gear to go up and Moate ran out worthy winners. This was another improved performance from our 12s and they are starting to put in to practice what has been worked on in training and with a little more self belief coupled with continued improvement, the future is starting to look bright for them. Keep up the good work lads.
The U11 team was decimated with injuries but no one can fault the effort of the young lads that took the field against a very good Moate side. From the outset Moate dominated possession but a combination of wayward shooting and excellent defence meant that there was just a goal between the sides at half time. The second half was a much more even affair and this time it was the wayward shooting of the Athlone lads that let them down. Like the u12s, as the game wore on and tiredness set in, Moate chalked up a few goals that killed off the game as a contest but this was a brave performance from the lads and great credit to them for keeping going right to the end. Many thanks to Vinny and the rest of the Moate lads for two great games.
The Athlone panel on the night was: Conor Devins, Pierce Edmundson, Ryan Fallon, Jack Gavin, Cian Geary, Cillian Geary, Eoin Hardiman, Toby Heavey,  Clinton Imade, Josh Kenny, Johnny Martin, Donagh McCormack, Dano McMonagle, Luke Nicholson, Luke O’Connell, Oisin O’Sullivan, Daniel Omukoro, Mark Rockett, Alan Sweeney, Adam Temple, Jason Ukatu, Justin Walsh, Luke Whelan and Brandon White.
