Athlone U 12s
Athlone Boys U12 boys played their B final of the Ballinasloe tournament on Friday evening and despite putting in a massive effort lost on combined score as the U11s won their match by 2points while the U12s lost their match by 8 points leaving a final deficit of 6 points. The lads had no reason to be down as they put in a terrific effort on the night and simply came up against a very strong and committed side.
The Athlone panel on the night was:
Conor Devins, Rian Dully, Pierce Edmundson, Luke Farrell, Jack Gavin, Cian Geary, Eoin Hardiman, Josh Kenny, Johnny Martin, Donagh McCormack, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Kian Mitchell, Luke O’Connell, Daniel Omukoro, Mark Rockett, Jason Rushe, Alan Sweeney, Niall Tallon, Adam Temple, Jason Ukatu, Justin Walsh and Brandon White.
Naas U12 Tournament:
Our ever busy U12 squad made the trip to Naas for their U12 tournament. This is an all-Ireland tournament run on an annual basis and is definitely the best tournament we participate in each year. Serious credit must go to the organising committee for their ability to organise such a fantastic event. We were drawn in an ominous group containing Round Towers from Kildare, Baltinglass from Wicklow, St Colmcille’s from Meath and Kilmacud Crokes from Dublin.
Our first game saw us take on Round Towers and the lads put in an excellent display and ran out deserved winners. The second game against St Colmcille’s brought the lads down to earth with a bang as the physically bigger team from Meath dominated from the throw in. The third game against Baltinglass was a real ding dong battle that was only settled with two late scores from the Wicklow boys to leave us with a 1-2 record. The final game was a real eye opener for all involved. Kilmacud Croke’s “first” U12 team were outstanding and our lads just couldn’t live with their pace and aggression. While we had ten 12 year olds in our squad of twenty, they boasted their best twenty 12 year olds from seventy! It was a chastening experience for the lads but it is only from playing the likes of these clubs that the lads can learn and grow as players.
The squad on the day was:
Conor Devins, Luke Farrell, Jack Gavin, Cian Geary, Eoin Hardiman, Johnny Martin, Donagh McCormack, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Kian Mitchell, Luke O’Connell, Daniel Omukoro, Oisin O’Sullivan, Jason Rushe, Tom Sheridan, Alan Sweeney, Niall Tallon, Adam Temple, Jason Ukatu, Justin Walsh and Brandon White.
