SFC Semi-Final
Following their great win over Mullingar Shamrocks in the quarter-final replay, our Seniors play Tyrrellspass in the semi-final of the Senior Championship in Cusack Park, Mullingar this Sunday, October 16th at 2pm.  The large Athlone attendance in Tubberclair really helped the lads so please come out again and support them in what will be our first Senior semi-final since 2003.

Athlone U 12s
The Athlone Boys U12 team prolonged their season by an extra few days by qualifying for the “A” final of the Jim McHugh Tournament following a superb victory over a very good Tubber/Ballycumber side on Sunday evening last. Played on a beautiful Autumn evening in a very well turned out pitch in Tubber, this game gave the large crowd in attendance a very good evening’s entertainment. Both teams played their part in a wonderful exhibition of gaelic football over fifty minutes. It took the Athlone lads a while to find their stride in the first moiety and despite shading the statistics for possession and chances, went in at the break 1-05 to 1-02 down as some over carrying and ponderous play allowed the excellent home defence to limit the lads to three scores. To the credit of the Athlone lads, they regrouped at the break, listened to what their coaches had to tell them, and went out and expressed themselves as they can in the second half. By the midpoint of the second half they had erased the half time deficit and lead by six points. That third quarter of the game was as good as we have seen from this group of players and they were a credit to their club as they played open attacking football while keeping things solid at the back. Next up is a renewal of our ongoing rivalry with the lads from Moate All Whites. The final is on Wednesday evening the 12th at 8.10 in Garrycastle and following a draw in the group stages, this promises to be a close affair. We hope as many Athlone people turn out to support this great bunch of players as they continue to bring great credit to the club.  Thanks also to everyone in Tubber/Ballycumber GAA for providing refreshments for kids and parents in the clubhouse after the game, it was much appreciated.
