ACFL Division 1
Athlone 0-10  Coralstown-Kinnegad 1-7
Our senior team earned their first point of their Division 1 campaign when they recovered from being eight points down early in the second half to grab a deserved draw in Kinnegad on Good Friday.
After the home side had opened the scoring with from a free in the first minute, the game then went scoreless for 15 minutes as Athlone struggled to break down Kinnegad's massed defence.  Instead it was Kinnegad who doubled their lead with a well worked point and they followed this up with a goal after Athlone had lost possession in the middle of the field.  Another pointed free put them six points ahead as half-time approached, before John Connellan finally got the Blues on the scoreboard in the 30th minute.  There was still time for the hosts to add another score in injury time to give themselves a healthy 1-4 to 0-1 lead at the break.

Kinnegad started the second half as they had finished the first and two quick points extended their advantage to eight.  Athlone were now staring down the barrel of their third consecutive league defeat, but to their credit, they upped the ante and three pointed frees from John Connellan brought them back into the game.  The home side kept daylight between the sides with a 45th minute point, but this was to be their final score as Athlone dominated the final quarter.  A Jack Quinn point, which could easily have been a goal, followed by another Connellan free, followed in turn by a Stephen Ward point after a goal-line clearance had prevented a seemingly certain goal, left only three in it with five to play.  Jordan Marshment reduced the gap further when he volleyed over before Ryan Gaffey struck two excellent points in the last minute to level things up, with the equaliser coming with the last kick of the game.
Athlone:  Conor Devaney, Matthew Darling, Tom Egan, Fergal Murray, John Egan, Stephen Ward (0-1), Noel Mulligan, John Stapleton, Jordan Marshment (0-1), Alan Gaughan, Darren Magee, Shane Allen, Richie Greene, John Connellan (0-5), Jack Quinn (0-1)  Subs Used:  Ryan Gaffey (0-2), Daniel Reid, Dermot Bannon.

U16 Boys league Division 2
Athlone 4-08  St Mary's Rochfortbridge 1-10
Athlone's U-16 boys got their league campaign off to the best possible start with a seven-point win over St Mary's Rochfortbridge in Páirc Chiaráin on Tuesday evening.  The home side started brightly and an Andrew Beaumont goal helped them to into five point lead at the 20 minute mark.  St Mary's brought themselves level with two points either side of a goal from a quickly taken free-kick, but Athlone had the final score of the half from a free to lead by 1-4 to 1-3 at the break

The visitors dominated in the opening minutes of the second half and three quick points put them ahead.  However, Aidan Ryan's charges upped their game in response and a well-taken goal from Shaun Fox put them back in front.  Further goals from Andrew Beaumont, who worked hard to create the chance for himself, and young sub Johnny Martin, with a powerful finish at the end of a fine passing move, put the boys in blue back in the driving seat. Some excellent points from Shane Reid and Eamon Martin kept the scoreboard ticking over for Athlone and, in the end, the seven-point winning margin was a fair reflection of the game.
